NARS Christopher Kane Breakthrough
When NARS cosmetics dropped their collaboration with designer Christopher Kane, the idea was hatched to launch a live contest on social media. A series of pneumatic hammers driven by hashtag tweets would chip away at a sleek orb containing the entire line. Once it was completely cracked open, the final winning tweet took the contents.

Several rounds of moldings with different materials were necessary to get the perfect surface and breakability - not too fragile but not indestructible.

The material ultimately needed to be perfectly smooth to achieve that sleek, piano key finish.

Next was testing the velocity and pressure of the pneumatics based on the estimated number of tweets.

Code needed to be developed to translate the hashtags to hammer strikes.

Promotional material for the contest.

Once it went live in the US, it all needed to be repeated for the UK.
